Here are the 100 best college football games of the 2017 season

We’re a month away from the first real Saturday of the 2017 college football season, and to celebrate, we’re giving you a list of the 100 best games of the season.

Now, we admit “best” is a nebulous term. Our definition of “best” for this exercise is three-fold. Above all is that we expect it to be important. Second is that it has intrigue, which is especially important when it comes to non-conference games. Third is that there is some history involved (truthfully, that impacts just a handful of our picks).

So, here we go with the 100 best games of the 2017 college football season.

Ed Orgeron

100. Arkansas vs. Texas A&M in Arlington, Texas, September 23

The buzz: The first SEC game for both, which means the hot seat gets hotter for the losing coach.

99. Army vs. Navy in Philadelphia, December 9

The buzz: The pomp, the pageantry, the tradition. Plus, it has the weekend to itself.

98. Boise State at BYU, October 6

The buzz: Explain to us again why BYU isn’t in the Mountain West Conference.

97. Penn State at Iowa, October 14

The buzz: A trap game for the Nittany Lions, who face Northwestern the week before and have Michigan and Ohio State in its next two games.

96. Boise State at Colorado State, November 11

The buzz: Another big one in the Mountain West; this could be for the Mountain Division title.

95. Mississippi State at Georgia, September 23

The buzz: It’s the first league game for Georgia, and it comes the week before a trip to Knoxville.

94. Oregon at Wyoming, September 16

The buzz: One thing’s for certain: Wyoming will have the best quarterback (Josh Allen) in this game. This is a chance for the Mountain West (and Allen) to make some national noise.

93. BYU vs. LSU in Houston, September 2

The buzz: This is big simply because it’s the first game in the Ed Orgeron era. It’s not going to happen, but – my goodness – think of the furor if the Tigers were to lose.

92. Florida at Kentucky, September 23

The buzz: We’ll be blunt: UK needs to beat Florida to be taken seriously as an SEC East contender. The Gators have won 30 in a row in the series.

91. Auburn at Arkansas, October 21

The buzz: This is the second of back-to-back road games for Auburn, which plays LSU the week before. That makes it dangerous.
