The SEC bowl primer: A look at all 9 games involving league teams

SEC bowl primer players

Mississippi State (8-4)

Bowl: vs. Louisville (8-4) in the TaxSlayer Bowl
The line: Louisville by 6.5
Date, TV info: December 30, noon, ESPN
The skinny: The Bulldogs will be without their coach (Dan Mullen) and their quarterback (Nick Fitzgerald); the Fitzgerald-Lamar Jackson quarterback duel would have been one of the better matchups of the postseason. Louisville’s first-year defensive coordinator is Peter Sirmon, who had held the same role at MSU.

Missouri (7-5)

Bowl: vs. Texas (6-6) in the Texas Bowl
The line: Missouri by 3
Date, TV info: December 29, 9 p.m., ESPN
The skinny: The Tigers take a six-game winning streak into the game against their former Big 12 rival. Mizzou didn’t beat a team with a winning record during its streak, which means it could go into the offseason riding a seven-game winning streak – all against teams that finished with a losing record.

South Carolina (8-4)

Bowl: vs. Michigan (8-4) in the Outback Bowl
The line: Michigan by 8
Date, TV info: January 1, noon, ESPN2
The skinny: The Gamecocks are bowling for the ninth time in 10 seasons. Michigan had one of the best defenses in the nation, but a mediocre offense. South Carolina won eight games but still was outgained by 413 yards on the season. This should not be an offensive masterpiece.

Texas A&M (7-5)

Bowl: vs. Wake Forest (7-5) in the Belk Bowl
The line: Wake Forest by 3
Date, TV info: December 29, 1 p.m., ESPN
The skinny: The Aggies will have an interim coach when they take on the Demon Deacons, who were a pleasant surprise this season in the ACC. Wake has a good offense, an iffy defense. This will be the first time these teams have played in football.
