Georgia added to its 2019 recruiting class Saturday, with a commitment from four-star outside linebacker J.D. Bertrand.

Bertrand, who attends Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Georgia, announced his decision on Twitter.

“I am excited to announce that I am committed to the University of Georgia!! 🐶🐾 #CommitToTheG #NewBreed19,” Bertrand wrote.

Bertrand, who is 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, picked the in-state Bulldogs over offers from Iowa State, LSU, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is his primary recruiter.

Bertrand made unofficial visits to Georgia on March 30, 2016; March 16, 2017; and April 22, 2017 prior to his commitment.

Georgia now has five commitments in its 2019 recruiting class, with Bertrand included. Five-star weak-side defensive end Nolan Smith, four-star wide receiver Jadon Haselwood, four-star offensive tackle Luke Griffin and four-star defensive tackle Rashad Cheney are the others.

The Bulldogs’ 2019 class, as a whole, is No. 3 in the nation behind Florida (No. 1) and LSU (No. 2). It had been ranked fourth before Bertrand’s commitment.

Bertrand does not yet have a 247Sports Composite ranking, though that should change at some point. He is ranked by 247Sports’ in-house recruiting service as a top-15 outside linebacker, as well as a top-150 overall prospect in the nation and top-15 overall prospect in Georgia.

Bertrand who also is listed as a tight end by recruiting services.

Last season as a sophomore, Bertrand had 68 tackles, including eight for loss and one sack. He also had 14 catches for 205 yards and four touchdowns. He played in only seven games.

As a freshman, Bertrand had 65 tackles (eight for loss) and 12.5 sacks, along with 14 catches for 275 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games played.
