4-star LB Tyron Hopper excited to join Dan Mullen’s first UF recruiting class

The Florida Gators picked up a commitment last week from four-star linebacker Tyron Hopper, who is now the highest-rated prospect currently committed to their 2019 class.

“I just really loved the atmosphere and the defensive scheme,” Hopper told GN regarding his commitment to Florida. “I feel like they have a great coaching staff that I can really fit in with.

“I just think Coach Mullen is a great coach and I just love Coach {Todd} Grantham’s defense. I feel like I fit in perfect with his defense.”

Hopper, (6-feet-2, 205 pounds) from Roswell, (GA.) High, is among the top-25 outside linebackers in the country and is also considered a top-350 overall talent nationally.

Hopper committed to Florida over offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Miami, South Carolina, Tennessee and others.

“I can come off the edge very well and I can cover very well, so that is what most colleges like about me,” Hopper said. “I can play against both the run and the pass.”

Hopper says he can’t wait to have his shot at playing against SEC competition.

“It’s a great feeling. I’ve always been looking into the SEC because the SEC has some real solid programs. I always knew that I wanted to play in the SEC.”

Hopper has already begun recruiting for the Gators.

“I’m recruiting and I’ve already started,” he said. “I tell guys at the end of the day it’s Florida and plus why wouldn’t you want to come in and be in this staff’s first recruiting class? I also tell people how great the coaching staff is and how I feel like they can fit in.”

Now that he is committed to Florida, where does Hopper stand with his recruitment?

“I’m not really looking around because I had all the offers that I wanted,” Hopper said. “So, it’s not like I’m looking, schools are still talking to me, but I’m happy to be committed to the University of Florida.”

Hopper had this message for the Gator fan base.

“I can’t wait to come make history. Go Gators.”

With the addition of Hopper, Florida now has eight commitments for its 2019 class. Hopper joins quarterback Jalon Jones, (Baltimore, MD.) as the two four-star prospects currently in the Gator class.
