Yes, Alabama and Jon Gruden are being mentioned in the same sentence. No, Grumors aren’t coming to Tuscaloosa. Instead, it’s a career detour for an in-demand Crimson Tide assistant.
Alabama secondary coach Derrick Ansley is set to take over the secondary of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders, as reported by FootballScoop.com. Ansley would work on the coaching staff of Gruden, the former Super Bowl XXXVII champion returning to the sidelines from the ESPN broadcast booth.
That’s a sudden change for Ansley, who had reportedly agreed to take the defensive coordinator job at Colorado State.
Ansley just completed his second season in Tuscaloosa, where Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ronnie Harrison, Levi Wallace and Anthony Averett were among the key pieces in a spectacularly deep unit. He previously coached on the staffs of Tennessee and Kentucky.
