Outside of Kentucky, basketball in the SEC has been described as a mere diversion between bowl games and spring practice. Well, some Auburn basketball fans are plenty passionate Tuesday – passionately upset that their head coach Bruce Pearl was snubbed in the voting for the league’s coach of the year.

Torching gear? That right there is a football level of anger.
The league’s coaches chose Tennessee’s Rick Barnes as the coach of the year ahead of Pearl. Additionally, no Auburn player was selected to the eight-member, all-conference first-team. This despite Auburn sharing a piece of the conference title.
While Auburn and Tennessee are co-regular season champions of the SEC with identical 13-5 conference records, Auburn’s overall record is better, the Tigers are the No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament, and when the team’s met earlier this season, Auburn won 94-84.
And if none of that matters to you because it has nothing to do with football – like me – here’s a preview of spring football practice at Auburn, which began last week.
