“I just feel like Coach McElwain is feeling what it’s like to be head coach at the University of Florida,” he said. “Gator fans love you when they love you, but they also hate to love you when it comes to things of this magnitude.
“I think Coach McElwain has adjusted to how up-and-down Florida Gator Nation is and how the fan base is, and I think he has done a good job in blocking out the noise and controlling what he can control.”
Troupe also thought it was important to point out how tough it is for Florida right now, dealing
with so many current suspensions and injuries.
“Most of the fan-base doesn’t understand that because they’re just judging the guys they see on the field,” Troupe said. “When you lose a guy like Antonio Callaway and a guy like Jordan Scarlett and 11 other guys that were going to be contributors, you lose that many scholarship guys, it’s like being on probation.
“I think Coach McElwain doesn’t get enough credit for how he has managed this ruckus this season. How many coaches could handle all these suspensions and keep the team together with everything going on off the field? What he is doing with what he has, I think he is doing a good job.”
