The SEC is filled with Tigers, Bulldogs and more. But when National Bird Day rolls around, it’s South Carolina’s time to celebrate.
That’s just what Gamecocks mascot Cocky did for National Bird Day on Thursday – with a little help from the Columbia Fire Department.
The fire department (@ColaFire) passed along its National Bird Day wishes to the South Carolina mascot on Twitter, and it was filled with images of Cocky alongside firefighters.

South Carolina, not surprisingly, is the only SEC program with a mascot-themed National Bird Day observance.
The Gamecocks are the only bird mascot in a conference in which other schools have cats (Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Missouri), dogs (Georgia, Mississippi State) and even hogs (Arkansas).
