LSU announced Monday afternoon that quarterback Danny Etling had what coach Ed Orgeron called a minor back procedure earlier in the day, and Orgeron said in a statement that “everything went all right.”
The Advocate newspaper of Baton Rouge reported that Etling has been dealing with a back issue for months. The procedure was meant to relieve pain and Etling isn’t expected to need a long recovery period.
Etling struggled in the first half of LSU’s spring game Saturday night, going 4-of-11 for 53 yards and one interception. Inclement weather forced the team to its indoor facility for the final two quarters of action, and no stats were kept for that portion of the contests.
Etling started 11 games in 2016. He threw for 2,123 yards and 11 touchdowns as LSU finished 8-4.
