Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said shutting down LSU football was a real possibility because of a budget crisis in 2016. That obviously didn’t happen.

Indeed, Edwards went hunting with new LSU football coach Ed Orgeron over the weekend.

It seems Orgeron enjoyed his time with the governor, as well.

When Orgeron was officially hired as permanent coach in November, Edwards issued a statement filled with high praise for him.

“A Louisiana native from Lafourche Parish, Coach Orgeron was born to coach at LSU,” Edwards said in a statement. “His passion for this state and this university was on display in every game that he coached, and I know that he has the support of this team as he takes on this permanent role.”
