Three-star linebacker Eriq Gilyard has a final three that includes one SEC team, and he is less than two months away from announcing his decision.

“My top three schools right now are Central Florida, Kentucky and North Carolina State,” Gilyard told GN. “I have a commitment date set for October 1.”

Gilyard (5 feet 11, 225 pounds), from perennial power Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy, is among the top-35 outside linebackers in the country for the class of 2018. Trinity Christian has won four consecutive state titles and Gilyard has been a part of the past two.

What does Gilyard like about UK?

“Whenever me and the coaches talk, it’s just a mutual connection,” Gilyard said. “I can go there and make an impact immediately. They need linebackers, so I believe it would be a good fit for me.

“Coach Stoops and all the coaches at Kentucky – they are trying to build something special. They have made it known how much they want me to be a part of it. I really like what they are building at Kentucky.”

Gilyard also speaks highly of UCF.

“Sometimes people overlook UCF as a small program, but it’s a great program and they have a lot of people going to the NFL,” he said. “They have a lot of quality players and it’s just a great school.”

Gilyard describes himself as a player “that is very smart. I study film, probably more than anybody, so they will be getting a very smart player who is fast to the ball.”

Gilyard told GN that he will be committing to either Kentucky, NC State, or UCF on October 1.

Gilyard seems ready to end the recruiting process.

“I’m just enjoying it the best I can,” he said.

Gilyard originally was committed to Maryland before re-opening his recruitment in January. His father, Roshard, played defensive back at Auburn in the early 2000s.
