Alabama’s loss of four-star defensive tackle Akial Byers has become Missouri’s gain.
Byers announced Thursday on Twitter that he has committed to the Tigers.

“First I would like to thank god for this opportunity his blessed me with,” Byers wrote. “Next I would like to thank my family & coaches that has been by my side throughout the recruitment process. With that said I will be attending the University of Mizzou.”
Byers had been committed to Alabama but failed to qualify academically and was set to enroll at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Since then, however, he reportedly has earned a qualifying ACT score and now just needs to finish well in his final high school semester.
If Byers does meet the academic requirements, he could be a part of the Tigers’ 2017 signing class. Alabama no longer has a scholarship available for Byers in its 2017 class, though it’s probable that he could have grayshirted.
Byers, from Fayetteville (Ark.) High, was a top-20 defensive tackle prospect and No. 2 prospect in Arkansas, according to 247Sports Composite.
