Along with Alabama in the top five, Clemson was No. 1 and USC, Washington and Oklahoma were No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Ohio State was No. 6.

Alabama (14-1) had been ranked No. 1 in the poll for the entirety of the season until Tuesday’s release.

Both LSU (No. 5) and Tennessee (No. 9) were ranked in the preseason top 10, with Florida at No. 25. Ole Miss (5-7) was No. 11 and Georgia (8-5) was No. 18, while Auburn was unranked.

LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia all won their bowl games to end the season, while Ole Miss didn’t qualify for one and Auburn lost in the Sugar Bowl to Oklahoma.

With the exception of Alabama, it was considered a down season in the SEC.
