Florida center T.J. McCoy was hospitalized after being hit by a suspected drunk driver.

McCoy and his girlfriend, Precious Ichite, were on a scooter near campus around 3 a.m. Friday when they were struck by a car, according to Gainesville Police.

McCoy and Ichite were thrown from the scooter and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police report.

McCoy’s father, Tony McCoy, shared two photos on Facebook of his son in a hospital bed at Shands Hospital in Gainesville looking upbeat and wearing a bandage on the left side of his forehead.

McCoy wrote Saturday morning following the accident that neither he nor Ichite or the alleged drunk driver suffered any significant injuries.

“I thank God that my girlfriend, myself and the person that hit us were not seriously injured,” McCoy wrote. “I’m alive, I have no broken bones or fractures. I do have road burns and I’m a little sore, but I’m resting and getting stronger.

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes for all who were involved in this unfortunate accident. I’m looking forward to spending Resurrection Sunday with my family at Hope International Church. Happy Easter to everyone! #GODISGOOD #GOGATORS”

Samantha Meldrem, 22, was arrested after hitting McCoy’s scooter and fleeing the scene. She is facing two misdemeanor counts of DUI and property damage.

The accident took place on University Avenue. Meldrem was driving a 2011 Honda Civic.

McCoy, who played in seven games overall, started the final four games of the season last fall for the Gators as a redshirt freshman.

McCoy originally signed and enrolled early at NC State in 2015 but transferred to Florida that summer before the start of the season to be closer to his father in his Leukemia battle.
