“I’ve been searching about that school since middle school,” Griffis told GN regarding IMG Academy. “It’s always been a great school and I always wanted to compete with the best and be the best. It’s the school to be at, so the opportunity came and that’s where I chose.”
Florida never has signed a player from IMG Academy.
Griffis (6 feet 3, 215 pounds) says as easy as it was to choose IMG, it was hard to leave his current high school, Clay High in Green Cove Springs, Fla., near Jacksonville.
“It’s pretty hard because they treated me well there,” he said. “It’s like a family around there.”
Griffis committed to Florida in September and has remained a pledge through the coaching change. He is the Gators’ only commitment for 2020 and one
“I live about 30 minutes or so from Gainesville, and me and my family have always been Gator fans. I grew up going to the games and it’s pretty much what my dream was,” he said. “I went to one of their Friday Night Light events and they talked to me there and then I got the offer during the Tennessee game last year.”
Griffis received the offer from Jim McElwain and his staff, but hasn’t met with Florida’s new staff.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk with Coach Mullen, but I’m planning on visiting Florida sometime this summer,” Griffis said. “Hopefully he come to visit IMG during the spring and I’ll have a chance to meet him.”
How would Griffis describe his game?
“I would describe myself as an aggressive pass rusher. I use a lot of strength and I play aggressive and fast,” he said.
