A former LSU football player will be battling for a championship Saturday.
Shawn Jordan, a former Tigers fullback, will headline World Series of Fighting 35 in a heavyweight title bout against Blagoy Ivanov on Saturday night in Verona, New York.
Jordan (19-7) made 40 appearances during his LSU career from 2003-07 and won two national championships. After beginning his MMA career 9-1 fighting mostly in small promotions in the South, he later caught the attention of bigger promotions such as Bellator and Strikeforce.
Jordan is best known for his 10-fight with the UFC from 2012-15, where he compiled a 6-4 record. After failing to reach an agreement on a new contract following an October 2015 loss at UFC 192, he signed with WSOF, where he made his debut last October.
Ivanov (14-1), a 30-year-old from Bulgaria, is the current WSOF heavyweight champion.
The main card begins at 11 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
