The Gators added to their 2019 recruiting class on Sunday when they received a commitment from three-star linebacker Jesiah Pierre. Pierre, (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) from Mount Dora, (FL) Christian Home and Bible School, is considered to be among the top 45 outside linebackers in the country for the 2019 class.
“I just felt like it was the right fit for me,” Pierre told GN regarding his commitment to Florida. “I’ve done a lot of prayers and talked with my family and I just really like Florida a lot. The energy and the great vibe that the school gives.
“The school itself is a great school and I will get a great education there. We all have to strive for something great in our lives and I think Florida is the best fit for me in my life. I just have to trust the process and keep working hard.”
Pierre says he has enjoyed getting to know Florida head coach Dan Mullen during this recruiting process.
“I like what Dan Mullen is about. When Dan Mullen got there is when the Gators offered me and that’s when I started to study what Dan Mullen and his coaching staff is all about. I like what they are about.”
Pierre received his Florida offer back in January after Dan Mullen and his staff arrived in Gainesville. Pierre committed to Florida over offers from Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina and others.
Pierre was committed to Miami for nearly two years before de-committing from the Hurricanes on May 18. He says that was a tough decision.
“It was very hard, one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my life,” Pierre said. “I had been committed to them for years and had built a great relationship with them. But, I had to realize what was best for me and move on with my life.”
As for the type of linebacker the Gators are getting in Pierre.
“I’m a downhill linebacker,” he said. “I give effort on every play and I try to be a versatile guy. Everybody can have the talent, but I feel like the effort you give is what really defines you as a player.”
There is no mistaking how fired up Pierre is to be committed to the Gators.
“It’s very exciting and I’m humble enough to be able to say that I’m very blessed to be a part of this program,” Pierre said. “I’m starting to understand what it means to be a Gator. I’m seeing people’s passion for that and I respect that passion.”
