Georgia breaks out of recruiting lull thanks to busy weekend

The Georgia’s 2019 recruiting class is back on track after adding two commitments this past weekend.

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs had what many feel could potentially be the best recruiting class of all time in 2018. Georgia signed 15 of the top-200 prospects in the nation in for the 2018 class. The success of Georgia’s 2018 class had rolled right in to 2019.

As of April 27 of this year, Smart and the Bulldogs received verbal commitments from eight of the top-300 recruits in the country. Since that date, however, Georgia had been quiet failing to add another commitment until this weekend.

Georgia added commitments from two prospects both considered to be among the top 20 at their positions nationally. Here is a look at the two newest commitments for Georgia’s 2019 recruiting class.

Athlete John Rhys Plumlee

The particulars: Plumlee (6-feet-1, 185 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Hattiesburg, MS Oak Grove. He committed to Georgia on June 15.

The skinny: Plumlee, who is among the top 20 ‘athlete’ prospects in the country, is also a top-15 recruit in Mississippi for his class. Capable of playing both wide receiver and defensive back, Plumlee also played some quarterback in high school.

Plumlee is a top-300 overall talent nationally, so regardless of what position he plays, Georgia added a good one to its 2019 class.

Offensive Tackle Xavier Truss

The particulars: Truss (6-feet-7, 350 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Warwick, RI Bishop Hendricken. He committed to Georgia on June17, 2018.

The skinny: Truss, who is the No.1 prospect in Rhode Island for the 2019 class, is also among the top 15 offensive tackles in the country. Truss had more than 30 offers nationally, including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida and Florida State. Truss is the first offensive lineman to commit to Georgia in 2019.

Georgia’s 2019 class now sits at 10 commitments and all 10 are considered among the top-275 prospects in the country.
