Georgia Bulldogs ‘scorching the earth’ on the recruiting trail in July

There is really no other way to say it: the Georgia Bulldogs are flat out scorching the earth right now on the recruiting trail. Georgia currently sits at 16 commitments for its 2019 class and amazingly, 15 of those 16 commitments are considered to be top-275 overall talents nationally according to

The weekend just gone by was another outstanding one for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs.

Georgia added three commitments to its 2019 class, each rated as a four, or five-star talent.

The good news for Georgia started when the Bulldogs picked up a commitment from five-star tailback John Emery Jr. from Destrehan, LA. Emery is considered to be a top-five running back nationally and a top-35 overall recruit in the 2019 class. Emery committed to Georgia over the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU and many other top programs.

Emery (5-foot-11, 206 pounds) is the first tailback to commit to Georgia for the 2019 recruiting class.

Georgia then added a commitment from four-star outside linebacker Rian Davis of Apopka (FL) Wekiva. Davis (6-foot-2, 233 pounds) is among the top-five outside linebackers in the country and is also a top 75 overall talent nationally.

Davis, who had offers from more than 40 programs from around the country, committed to Georgia over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee and many others. Davis joins fellow recruit J.D. Bertrand, Roswell, GA, as the two current linebackers in this class.

Finally, Georgia added a commitment from four-star athlete Makiya Tongue from Baton Rouge, (LA) University Lab. Tongue, who plays linebacker and wide receiver in high school, is considered to be among the top 15 ‘athletes’ nationally in the 2019 class.

Tongue had over 25 offers nationally including nine from the SEC alone. Tongue currently does not hold an LSU offer and it will be interesting to see what happens if that offer from the Tigers should come.

Bottom line, it was a great weekend on the recruiting trail for the Georgia Bulldogs, who have now jumped into the No.2 spot in the current 247sports recruiting rankings.
