If it feels as if Georgia and Clemson are totally dominating the top tier of recruits in the 2018 class, there’s a good reason: The schools, separated by barely 60 miles, have combined to garner commitments or signings from seven of the top 10 recruits in the 2018 class.
With the Wednesday morning signing of Jamaree Salyer, the nation’s top-ranked guard, Georgia has the Nos. 2, 6 and 10 recruits in the class. Salyer (No. 10) joins quarterback Justin Fields (No. 2) and running back Zamir White (No. 6).
Clemson, meanwhile, added five-star defensive end K.J Henry, ranked eighth nationally, and five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman, the ninth-ranked recruit, a Cincinnati-area native who surprised Ohio State fans by signing with the Tigers on Wednesday. The Tigers already had commitments from quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the top-ranked 2018 recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings, and defensive end Xavier Thomas, the third-ranked recruit.
At this rate, the Bulldogs and Tigers look like they’re reloading for future College Football Playoff runs well beyond 2017.
