“I want to first thank the man above for blessing me with another opportunity to play football at the next level,” Cheney wrote. “I also want to thank my dad, my grandmother, my mom, Coach Avery, Coach Kenyatta, Chad Simmons and my trainer John Lewis for all the sacrifices they have made for me. With that being said I want to announce that I’m verbally committed to the University of Georgia #NewBreed19 #GoDawgs #LLJ”
Cheney, from Booker T. Washington in Atlanta, chose Georgia over Tennessee and LSU. He made his commitment during the Bulldogs’ junior day visit.
Cheney (6 feet 3, 270 pounds) currently is unranked by 247Sports but has recently picked up more recruiting interest. Georgia, Tennessee and LSU, the three offers he holds, all only offered this month.
Along with Cheney, five-star defensive end Nolan Smith and four-star offensive tackle Luke Griffin have committed to Georgia as a part of its 2019 class, which 247Sports currently ranks third in the nation and second in the SEC.
In their most recent 2017 class, the Bulldogs also finished third nationally and second in the SEC.
