When it comes to the recruiting trail, there may not be a hotter team in the country than the Auburn Tigers.
Auburn has added five commitments to its 2018 class in the past six weeks, and all five are four-star prospects ranked in the top 300 nationally.
One of those commitments came from four-star linebacker Zakoby McClain on November 28.
“I’ve been going to commit to Auburn, but I just wanted to wait to keep people guessing,” McClain told GN. “I love the fans, the atmosphere and the coaches, and players always make me feel welcome.”
McClain (6 feet 0, 205 pounds), from Valdosta (Ga.) High, is among the top-10 outside linebackers nationally and a top-150 prospect overall.
McClain, who chose Auburn over offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others, did so in large part because of his relationship with coach Gus Malzahn and one assistant in particular.
“It’s been good and I really like the way Coach Malzahn and Coach (Travis) Williams (linebackers coach) coach up their players. Coach Williams just has a good vibe and he’s very cool,” McClain said.
McClain describes himself as “a tough, smart, disciplined and aggressive player. Speed is also a very big part of my game.”
McClain joins defensive tackle Coynis Miller, wide receiver Seth Williams, defensive back Christian Tutt and athlete Richard Jibunor as prospects who have committed to Auburn since October 14.
The Tigers’ class has 18 commitments.
