Cupcakes with a live tiger. It’s the kind of SEC birthday party that could only happen in Baton Rouge, and it’s coming Wednesday.
LSU is throwing a special birthday party for its newly introduced live tiger mascot Wednesday afternoon, the school announced.

The party will include cupcakes (no, this doesn’t refer to the FCS opponents that LSU schedules and trounces every year) and stickers.
The Instagram account for Mike VII included a post late Tuesday looking forward to the festivities.
Mike VII took over as LSU’s mascot in August at the age of 11 months. He’s originally from a wildlife center in Okeechobee, Fla.
The preceding mascot, Mike VI, died last October of spindle cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
Unlike his predecessors, Mike VII will not be brought into the stadium on game days. The university has built a new on-campus habitat for the tiger.
LSU has featured a live tiger mascot on its campus since 1936.
