Jalen Hurts and Jarrett Stidham are on opposite sides of the Iron Bowl divide, but they’re now together on a list of college football’s best from Texas.
The Alabama and Auburn quarterbacks are among the players named to the watch list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, presented to the top offensive player in college football connected to the state of Texas.

All 45 nominees either play for a college in Texas or played high school football in Texas.
The list includes Alabama’s Hurts, who played in last year’s College Football Playoff final as a freshman, and Auburn’s Stidham, just named the starting quarterback for the Tigers after his transfer from Baylor.
In addition to the two quarterbacks, wide receivers Christian Kirk of Texas A&M and J’Mon Moore of Missouri also made the list after strong 2016 seasons.
The other SEC players listed are Florida wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, Auburn running back Kam Martin and Arkansas running back Devwah Whaley.
The list also includes 38 players from outside the SEC, headlined by Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett and Texas offensive tackle Connor Williams.
The award is named for Campbell, the 1977 Heisman Trophy winner and Hall of Fame running back from Tyler, Texas, who finished his career at Texas with 4,443 yards and 41 touchdowns.
