LSU has had numerous top-flight edge rushers of late, and the Tigers have a commitment from a highly touted edge rusher for their 2018 recruiting class.
Four-star defensive end Jarell Cherry is currently LSU’s highest-rated commitment for the 2018 cycle. Cherry (6 foot 3, 224 pounds), from Dallas Carter, is among the top 10 weakside ends nationally and a top-200 prospect overall for the 2018 class.
Among the noted pass rushers at LSU this decade are Sam Montgomery, Barkevious Mingo, Danielle Hunter and Arden Key, and there are high hopes for true freshman K’Lavon Chaisson. The plan is for Cherry to be the next one off that assembly line.
“I’m a long but lean explosive edge rusher,” Cherry told GN. “I have a lot of room to grow, and I think I have a high-end motor. Determination is a pretty big asset to my game.”
Cherry said he enjoyed watching LSU get a big win last Saturday at Florida.
“Watching the LSU Tigers being able to pull through a big conference game like that is always an amazing sight to witness,” he said.
Cherry said the team’s growing pains this season should pay off in the future.
“They are a team containing large amounts of talent, but it’s young talent,” Cherry said. “I believe the development being shown this season is looking to have a big turnout in the future.”

Cherry committed to the Tigers on April Fool’s Day this year, but was not fooling around when asked about his commitment.
“My commitment stands very strong with the LSU Tigers,” he said.
LSU currently has 18 commitments for its 2018 recruiting class, from six states. Cherry joins four-star offensive lineman Chasen Hines as the two Texans who have pledged to LSU for 2018.
