Jim Harbaugh has high-profile people serve as honorary Michigan game captains in the past, but none might be as big as the ones he wants to get this upcoming season.

Harbaugh told reporters Saturday that he plans to invite former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama to participate in such a role this season.

“We’re making those asks,” Harbaugh said. “Official asks. Yes, we’re in the process of making an official ask. There’d been, ‘Hey we’d like you to do it.’ Now the official ask.”

Harbaugh spent time with the Obamas this week while visiting Washington, D.C. for a speaking engagement.

Harbaugh also was on Michelle Obama’s education committee and attended a White House party in January while Barack Obama was still president.

Harbaugh had Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and Hank Aaron all serve as honorary captains this past season at Michigan.

Harbaugh also said Saturday that the team has voted to take a spring break trip to Paris; Normandy, France; and London next year following a similar trip to Rome this past spring.
