The road from Gainesville to the NFL can be lucrative, and Florida coach Jim McElwain is just one of the people taking notice. Florida’s selections in April’s NFL draft have signed contracts worth more than $39 million, a figure tweeted by McElwain on Friday.

The total is headed by the $11 million for linebacker Jarrad Davis, selected by the Detroit Lions 21st overall. In all, eight Gators were drafted, seven of them on defense. Offensive tackle David Sharpe was the only exception.
Florida isn’t the only SEC program to draw attention to the earning potential of its players.
Earlier this year, Alabama and LSU both posted tweets about their draft picks’ contracts. Alabama highlighted its selections’ contracts under the heading “The Process Pays Off,” while LSU posted a similar series of tweets. Those two schools had the highest total contract value among all NCAA teams for the 2017 draft.
