Joe Moorhead continues turning heads on the recruiting trail. Over the weekend, Mississippi State picked up a commitment from four-star safety Jarrian Jones, who de-committed from Oklahoma and committed to the Bulldogs on the same day.
Jones, (6-feet-1, 185-pounds) from Flowood (MS) Northwest Rankin, is among the top-20 safety prospects in the country and is also considered a top-275 overall talent nationally in the 2019 class.
With the addition of Jones, Mississippi State now has five commitments ranked among the top-300 overall prospects in the country for the 2019 class. That equals the number of Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee combined.
In fact, Mississippi State’s old head coach, Dan Mullen has yet to land a top-300 overall prospect in 2019 to commit to Florida. For Mississippi State fans keeping count, and you know they are, that would be 5-0 Mississippi State over Florida in current top-300 commitments for the 2019 class.
(Editor’s note: Two hours after the publication of this story, Florida signed it’s first Top 300 prospect for the 2019 class, defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries.)
If you look at the breakdown of the Mississippi State 2019 recruiting class to this point, it really shows the high-level at which Moorhead and his staff are recruiting.
Mississippi State has three of the top-ranked defensive ends in the country committed. Four-star defensive ends Charles Moore, (Louisville, MS) Ani Izuchukwu, (Nashville, TN) and De’Monte Russell, (Jackson, MS) are all considered to be among the top-25 defensive ends in the country.
All three prospects had numerous offers from around the country including from several SEC programs, all chose to commit to Moorhead.
There are not many programs in the nation that can say they currently have three committed defensive linemen ranked four-star or higher; Mississippi State is one of them.
Four-star quarterback Garrett Shrader (6- feet-4, 200-pounds) from Charlotte Christian is among the top-10 pro-style quarterbacks in the country. Shrader told GN following his commitment to Mississippi State in early April that it was Moorhead himself who sealed his commitment.
