Kirby Smart compares Roquan Smith to former Alabama LB C.J. Mosley

Georgia coach Kirby Smart coached his share of talented linebackers during his time as Alabama’s defensive coordinator. Among the best was C.J. Mosley, who was a Butkus Award winner, SEC Defensive Player of the Year and consensus two-time All-American with the Tide.

When asked at SEC Media Days this week about comparisons between his former Alabama linebackers and current Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith, Smart brought up Mosley’s name.

“If I had to draw a comparison to anybody, it would probably be closer to C.J. Mosley athletically, the ability to cover and move in space,” Smart said.

Mosley has since made two Pro Bowl appearances and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team as a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

Smith led the Bulldogs with 95 tackles and recorded 5.0 tackles for loss in 2016. He was named to the preseason All-SEC first team during SEC Media Days this week.
