Kirby Smart named the Maxwell Club’s national coach of the year

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is the Maxwell Football Club’s 2017 Collegiate Coach of the Year.

Smart led the Bulldogs to a 13-2 mark in his second season, which ended with a loss in the national title game. It was the first time since 1982 that Georgia played for the national title.

Georgia also won its first SEC championship since 2005.

Smart was 8-5 in his first season as Bulldogs coach.

Smart will be presented with the award at the Maxwell Club’s National Awards Gala in Atlantic City, N.J., on March 9.
