Florida, LSU among leaders for 4-star DE John Waggoner, Iowa’s top prospect

John Waggoner

Four-star defensive end John Waggoner, considered the best prospect in Iowa in the 2018 recruiting cycle, may end up playing his college ball in the SEC.

Waggoner has been offered by many programs from around the country, including Arkansas, Florida and LSU.

“I probably communicate the most with LSU at this point, but I visited both LSU and Florida and liked both of them quite a bit,” he told GN.

Waggoner (6 feet 5, 230 pounds), from West Des Moines (Iowa) Dowling Catholic, is a national top-250 recruit overall.

“I still like quite a few schools and I’m still trying to figure out where I will be taking my officials,” Waggoner said. “I’m still communicating quite a bit with Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and others. There are still a lot of schools on my radar. … I’m not worried too much about location.”

What type of defensive lineman is Waggoner?

“I like to think I have a high motor and good athletic ability for my size,” Waggoner said. “I like to fly around and do my job to the best of my ability.”

As for when we can expect a commitment from Waggoner, there is no timetable.

“I wouldn’t be opposed to getting it over with if I knew what I wanted to do at this point, but I’m
playing it by ear right now and going with my gut. Once I’m ready to make a decision, I will
make a decision,” he said.
