It’s official: LSU has a Mike VII and he’s in his new habitat

LSU mascot, Mike VII

LSU officially has its new live tiger mascot – Mike VII.

Here is a video from the school of the new Mike in his new habitat in Baton Rouge. Mike VI died of cancer in October.

Mike VII arrived last week and had to undergo a round of testing and a week of quarantine before being released into his habitat. He is an 11-month-old male Siberian-Bengal mix and arrived from the Wild at Heart Wildlife Center in Okeechobee, Fla. LSU has found its past three live mascots from similar facilities. LSU has not purchased a tiger since Mike III in 1958 and does not support the for-profit breeding of tigers.

LSU has had a live tiger mascot on campus since 1936.

LSU has announced that the new mascot will not be brought into Tiger Stadium on game days.

Mike the Tiger has a Facebook page ( and is also on Twitter (@MiketheTiger) and Instragram (@MiketheTiger_LSU).
