Mitchell received the award from the America’s Promise Alliance at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. The former Bulldogs receiver made national news in college when he joined a book club of mostly middle-aged women.
The wide receiver also authored a children’s book called “The Magician’s Hat” before his final season of college football. He has been recognized for his work in trying to encourage kids to read on such television programs as the Steve Harvey Show.
Mitchell finished his rookie season with the Patriots by helping them win Super Bowl 51. He finished the year with 32 passes for 401 yards and 4 TDs in the regular season.
