3. Defensive line
If Quaadir Sheppard (6-3, 249) can stay healthy, he has NFL potential. He began his career at Syracuse before being dismissed and landing at Ole Miss. Alas, he is out this spring while rehabbing from foot surgery, which hurts as coaches look for the best four up front.
Tackle Benito Jones is a solid building block in the middle, and he should be one of the defensive leaders.
It’s time for third-year sophomore end Charles Wiley to step up. Keep an eye on JC transfer tackle Hal Northern, who enrolled early; he is a 6-1, 295-pounder who wreaked havoc on the inside at Northwest Mississippi CC. Redshirt freshman tackle Sincere David (6-1, 337) is an interesting prospect; he was a better offensive lineman than defensive lineman in high school at Jacksonville Sandalwood, but his size means he could become an effective run-stuffer.
