What’s the definition of a trap game? Look it up in the dictionary and you might find Saturday’s contest at Sanford Stadium as Exhibit A for the Bulldogs.
Georgia could be looking ahead to the showdown with Florida on October 28. Missouri should be rested and well prepared coming out of its bye week. Tigers quarterback Drew Lock is due to start performing better than his completion percentage (52.5) indicates.
Will any of this matter?
The way the Bulldogs are playing right now, probably not.
The Bulldogs have won the last three meetings in this series, but the last two have been extremely close (9-6 in 2015 and 28-27 in 2016), both against Mizzou squads that frankly were not very good – further evidence that if Georgia lets up this week, Kirby Smart and his team might not like the result.
Sportsbook lines for the Georgia vs Missouri game establish the Bulldogs as a hefty 31-point favorite over the Tigers. That’s a massive difference, but the Dawgs have covered big lines the past two week.
In Georgia’s 45-14 demolition of Vanderbilt, the Dawgs had two different players run for at least 100 yards in a single game for the first time since 2014. Senior Sony Michel led the way with 150 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown. He was followed up by Nick Chubb who ran for 138 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs averaged 7.8 yards-per-carry on a staggering 54 rushing attempts to total 423 yards on the ground. Expect more of the same this weekend.
Missouri’s rush defense ranks 98th in Football Bowl Subdivision allowing 4.38 yards-per-rush and 193 yards rushing per game. This against a schedule that has included games against Missouri State, Purdue, South Carolina and Kentucky. Auburn rushed for 263 yards and five touchdowns on them in late September.
