Here’s every sports information director’s nightmare: It’s National Signing Day, letters of intent are ready to come flooding in and the school’s football Twitter account gets pulled off the Internet.
That was the story for Missouri at the start of National Signing Day on Wednesday; the official football account (@MizzouFootball) was suspended by Twitter, then reinstated a few hours later.
Early Wednesday, though, anyone visiting the account saw the message, “This account has been suspended. Learn more about why Twitter suspends accounts, or return to your timeline.”
It’s not clear what the account did to earn the suspension, though Sporting News reported that it was for copyright infringement.
Mizzou wasn’t alone: As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, the same problem struck USF’s Twitter account Wednesday before it was reinstated. And Texas football’s account was temporarily suspended Tuesday.
