Just like other golfers, Nick Saban hits balls into the water. Unlike most other golfers, though, Saban has fans who go in the water to retrieve the ball to get it autographed.
Saban had an unconventional encounter with a determined Crimson Tide fan at the Regions Pro-Am in Hoover, Alabama on Wednesday, AL.com reported.
When Saban whacked a shot into the water, Alabama fan Michael Graydon used his knowledge of the Greystone Country Club course to track it down in a nearby creek.
Then, he tried to catch up with Saban for several holes in pursuit of an autograph. It took some persistence, but Graydon finally managed to show the surprised Tide coach his ball to autograph.
Saban was one of several SEC coaches and former players at the annual event. Among the others were Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
Here’s a guess that Saban’s mistake on the course will turn into a family souvenir that’s still discussed decades from now.
