“He said, ‘you’ll know when the time is right,’” Malone said. “When he retired, he knew it was right – kind of felt it in his heart and I felt it in my heart too.”
So, K.J. Malone embarks on his career a year later than planned. He was leaning toward not returning for a fifth collegiate season when Ed Orgeron convinced him to return for one more year with the Tigers. Despite the injury and falling short of lofty season expectations, Malone has no regrets.
“I’m glad I came back,” he said. “I look at LSU as my second home. Coming back for that season, even getting hurt, just being on the sideline and being with the guys like my brothers, I would do that all over again if I could.”
