The Ole Miss Rebels added a commitment to their 2019 class on Monday when three-star defensive lineman Patrick Lucas announced his intentions to head to Oxford.
“I really liked the vibe around Ole Miss,” Lucas told GN. “It was a happy, good-feeling vibe and a family environment. I just wanted to be a part of it.”
Lucas, (6-foot-3, 280 pounds) from Wetumpka (AL) High, is among the top 40 defensive tackles in the country for the 2019 class and is also considered to be a top 20 overall talent in Alabama.
“I’m a high-motor type of football player because I don’t ever stop playing,” Lucas said. “I may be tired, but I’m always going to chase down plays down field and make effort plays. I’m going to come hard every play and I play angry.”
Lucas has built a bond with the Ole Miss coaching staff through this process, especially when it comes to Rebels head coach Matt Luke.
“I have a good and strong relationship with the coaching staff,” Lucas said. “I like that Coach Luke is honest and is always straight up with you. Even though he is the head coach, we are still like family.”
Despite playing defensive tackle in high school, that may not be where Lucas ends up in college.
“I think I’m going to play end, but I can pretty much play anywhere along the defensive line,” he said.
Lucas, can’t wait to follow in his family footsteps and play in the SEC.
“It’s amazing and it’s always been a dream of mine since my older brother started his journey at LSU. I always have wanted to play in the SEC.”
The older brother of Lucas, Samuel Gibson III, was a member of the LSU football team is 2010 and 2011.
Lucas had this message for the Ole Miss fan base.
“I’m happy to be a part of it and I’m ready to bring in more guys. ‘Hotty Toddy,’ and I’m ready to be a Rebel.”
