Will Muschamp continues to raise eyebrows on the recruiting trail. South Carolina has added two defensive back commitments in the past week from four-star talents which puts the Gamecocks firmly inside the top 20 of the 2019 recruiting rankings according to 247sports.com.
Here is a look at the two newest members of the South Carolina 2019 recruiting class.
Cornerback DJ Daniel
The particulars: Daniel, (6-foot, 180 pounds) originally from Griffin, (GA), currently attends Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, (GA). He committed to South Carolina on August 16.
The skinny: Daniel, who is a top 5 corner in the junior college ranks for the 2019 class, had over 15 offers from around the country, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia before committing to South Carolina. Daniel joins fellow four-star corner Cameron Smith as the only two corners currently in the Gamecocks 2019 class.
Cornerback Cameron Smith
The particulars: Smith, (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) from Blythewood, (SC) Westwood, committed to South Carolina on August 17.
The skinny: A four-star prospect, Smith is among the top 30 corners in the country and is also among the top 5 recruits in South Carolina for the 2019 recruiting cycle. Smith had offers from over 25 programs nationally including Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee.
Smith adds much needed help to the South Carolina secondary in this recruiting class.
With the additions of both Daniel and Smith, the South Carolina 2019 recruiting class now sits with 18 commitments. Those 18 commitments are represented by six different states proving the outreach that Muschamp and his staff have brought to Columbia.
The Gamecocks currently have eight commitments who are rated as either four, or five-star prospects by 247sports.com. That is the same amount as Tennessee and more than Florida, once again putting into perspective how well Muschamp and his staff are performing on the recruiting trail.
