AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn finished the 2017 regular season 10-2, but I was perfect with the Tigers predicting their two losses at Clemson and at LSU before the season. I nailed those upset wins over Georgia and Alabama and every other game they played correctly as well.
So, I had to try my luck again, because after all, that was 100 percent luck last time, right?
Sept. 1. – Washington (in Atlanta)
The buzz: The winner of this Top 10 matchup will prove it’s a legit playoff contender. Auburn has lost the last time two times it has played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The third time will truly be a charm for the Tigers Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Auburn wins 27-23
Sept. 8 – Alabama State
The buzz: The FCS Hornets are 45 minutes away from Auburn. So at least they don’t have to travel far back to Montgomery after a blowout loss.
Prediction: Auburn wins 42-10
Sept. 15 – LSU
The buzz: Auburn hasn’t won at LSU since 1999, but this game is at Jordan-Hare Stadium where it’s beaten the Tigers the last two times it has played them there. Add the motivation it should have from how it lost at Death Valley last season, advantage Auburn.
Prediction: Auburn wins 28-20
Sept. 22 – Arkansas
The buzz: Gus Malzahn has won the last two times he has faced his state university by a margin of 108-23. Expect another lopsided win for the Tigers at home.
Prediction: Auburn wins 45-17
Sept. 29 – Southern Miss
The buzz: Tigers will remain undefeated with a comfortable win over the Eagles.
Prediction: Auburn wins 41-10
Oct. 6 – at Mississippi State
The buzz: This will come down to the wire. Nick Fitzgerald is a playmaker and difference maker, but Auburn’s defense will wear on the dual-threat quarterback and finally get to him in the fourth quarter.
Prediction: Auburn wins 28-24
Oct. 13 – Tennessee
The buzz: The Volunteers have a brutal three-game stretch in which they play at Georgia, at Auburn against Alabama. This is the middle game of that. Good luck, UT.
Prediction: Auburn wins 31-20
Oct. 20 – at Mississippi
The buzz: The Tigers won’t have their way with the Rebels like the first half of last year’s game. With its bye week up and a College Football Playoff poll on deck, Auburn should want to send a message with a big road win.
Prediction: Auburn wins 33-21
