From Dont’a Hightower to Reuben Foster, NFL teams have learned that Alabama linebackers mean business, and Rashaan Evans could be next in line.
NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein named the Crimson Tide senior among the top 10 linebackers to watch in college football during the 2017 season.
It’s not strictly a list of the top 10 players at the position, with Zierlein focusing on players who are catching the eye of NFL personnel evaluators. Evans, who has spent much of his Alabama career in part-time duty behind players like Foster and Ryan Anderson, certainly fits that definition.
Zierlein said that Evans has “ability to range from sideline to sideline and the lateral quickness to sift from gap to gap mirroring shifty running backs,” all traits high on the wish list for coaches and coordinators across the NFL.
This year, Evans is expected to take on a much greater role than in the past. Foster, Anderson and Tim Williams are gone to the NFL, while Shaun Dion Hamilton is recovering from a knee injury sustained in last season’s SEC championship game against Florida.
