Rebels up to 27 commitments with addition of hometown LB Eric Jeffries

Ole Miss has added four commitments to its 2019 recruiting class over the past week, including a pledge from inside linebacker Eric Jeffries.

“First of all, I’m from Mississippi and I’m from Oxford, so with it being so close and me and my family liking the university and the football program it was a great feeling,” Jeffries told GN. “I had great vibes from the University of Mississippi, so it’s home and I loved it.”

Has Ole Miss always been Jeffries’ dream school, considering he is from Oxford?

“I was a fan of theirs growing up, so I guess you could call it that,” he said.

Jeffries, (6-foot-3, 228 pounds) from Oxford Lafayette High School, committed to Ole Miss for many reasons, one of which was his long-lasting relationship with head coach Matt Luke.

“My relationship with Coach Luke has been tight because he was the first person to recruit me,” Jeffries said. “Ole Miss was my first camp going into the ninth-grade, so they have been recruiting me since then.

“He had been my personal recruiter because he was the recruiter for the Oxford, Mississippi area when Coach (Hugh) Freeze was coaching. We have known each other and have had a good relationship for a long time. He has watched me grow and we have a really good relationship.”

Jeffries says this 2019 Ole Miss class has the opportunity to accomplish big things in the future.

“It’s special and we are building something special going on in Oxford right now.”

What type of player is he?

“I’m a downhill run-stopper type player,” Jeffries said. “I help out on the run a lot. I’m a downhill, hard-nosed football player and that is pretty much my game.”

That his future will include playing SEC football in his own home town is not lost on Jeffries.

“It’s still sinking in because the SEC, year-after-year is the best conference in college football,” he said. “I also get to do it right here at home, yeah, that’s pretty special.”

Jeffries had this message for the Ole Miss fan base.

“This 2019 class is special and we are going to re-build this program. We are going to get that brand back, get that land shark defense back.”

Ole Miss currently sits with 27 commitments for its 2019 recruiting class. That is currently the most commitments for any school in the SEC.
