Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs had one of the best recruiting classes in the country in 2017. The success of last year’s class has not yet rubbed off yet on the 2018 class.
To date Georgia has 12 commitments for the 2018 cycle, which is tied for third-fewest among SEC programs. The good news for Bulldogs fans is Georgia remains in play for numerous big-time prospects.
Here is a look at five key prospects that Georgia fans should keep an eye on as recruiting rolls on.
QB Justin Fields
The buzz: Fields (6 feet 3, 221 pounds) is from Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison, in the Atlanta suburbs. A five-star prospect, Fields is considered the top recruit nationally in the class of 2018. Fields, who was committed to Penn State for nine months before decommitting on June 6, is a high priority for Georgia. The Bulldogs appear to be firmly in play here, along with Florida State and Auburn. Florida was thought to be in play as well, but after Florida got a commitment from four-star QB Matt Corral, it’s hard to imagine Fields going there as well.

The state of North Carolina has already been good for the ‘Dogs this recruiting cycle. On June 27, Georgia landed five-star running back Zamir White from Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland County, and they would love to go back into North Carolina and get a player the caliber of Henry.

S Tyreke Johnson

A five-star recruit, Salyer is the top guard in the country as well as a top-10 prospect overall. Georgia, who had a fantastic offensive line haul in the 2017 recruiting cycle, would love to keep Salyer at home and build upon their success along the offensive line. Another school Salyer is considering is Notre Dame, and he is scheduled to attend Saturdays Georgia-Notre Dame game in South Bend. Clemson and Ohio State also seem to be in the mix.
