Georgia is two games away from its second national title. But to claim it, the Bulldogs must first overcome Oklahoma in a Rose Bowl that has everything.
There’s the quarterback matchup of Baker Mayfield, the most distinguished college player of 2017 and one of the most experienced, and Jake Fromm, the outstanding freshman for Georgia. There’s the contest of a first-year coach in Lincoln Riley and a second-year coach in Kirby Smart. And there’s the rare sight of seeing teams that rarely play in Pasadena: Oklahoma’s only past Rose Bowl came after the 2002 season against Washington State, and the Bulldogs haven’t played there since January 1, 1943.
In more than 100 years of Oklahoma and Georgia football, with the likes of erschel Walker, Brian Bosworth, Charley Trippi, Steve Owens, Wally Butts, Bud Wilkinson, Frank Sinkwich, Billy Vessels, Billy Sims, Vince Dooley, Barry Switzer, Sam Bradford, David Pollack, Mark Richt, Bob Stoops and 10 Ugas, the Sooners and Bulldogs have met on the field a grand total of zero times.
The first one will be special.
In early lines, Oklahoma is a 1-point favorite.
