SEC Network’s Chris Doering previews Florida vs. Kentucky

Former Florida wide receiver and current SEC Network analyst Chris Doering joined 1010XL Radio in Jacksonville to preview the Florida-Kentucky matchup and look back on the Gators season-opening victory over Charleston Southern.

“I was happy to see Feleipe {Franks} have some success albeit against a team that was over-matched,” Doering told 1010XL. “He looked like he had poise and he looked like he knew where to go with the football and that wasn’t always the case last year.

“I thought he threw a very nice, catchable football. As a receiver, you want to have a ball that you can make a play on. You don’t need that high, hard one and he had a tendency to do that last year.

“I firmly believe that there was some growth that took place during that 60 minutes of football for him and the confidence definitely goes a long way. When you have success and you haven’t been used to playing that way and being received by the fans the way he was, I’m sure it took a weight off his shoulders and had him flying going into practice this week.”

Doering had praise not only for Franks, but for the rest of the Gators for their 53-6 win over Charleston Southern last Saturday.

“I thought they were very efficient,” Doering said. “They didn’t have a bunch of false start penalties, offside, or undisciplined penalties. I thought they looked much better than I had seen them in practice.

“From everything I saw, it was exactly what you would want in an opening game performance and the key is building on that and realizing it’s not going to be that easy as you open up SEC play this week.”

The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Florida this week trying once again to end one of the most talked-about streaks in college football. Kentucky has not beaten Florida since 1986. That would make 31 consecutive victories for the Gators.

Doering now looks at this streak differently than he did during his playing days in Gainesville.
