Here are our updated SEC Power Rankings after the first month of the 2017 season.
14. Missouri (1-3)
Last week: 14th
The skinny: Mizzou was off last week and plays at Kentucky this week. Did the week off enable the Tigers to get anything fixed? The problem: There is a lot to fix.
13. Ole Miss (2-2)
Last week: 13th
The skinny: The Rebels got trampled in Tuscaloosa last week. They’ll be annihilated in Auburn this week. When you can’t run or stop the run, terrible things happen.
12. Vanderbilt (3-2)
Last week: 12th
The skinny: Game 3 of a tough three-game stretch looms against Georgia. The first two games in the stretch were losses to Alabama and Florida. The Commodores beat the Bulldogs in Athens last season; they ain’t beating the Bulldogs again this season.
11. South Carolina (3-2)
Last week: 11th
The skinny: Just like everyone thought before the season, line play is an issue for the Gamecocks on both sides of the ball. How will the lines hold up this week against Arkansas?
10. Tennessee (3-2)
Last week: 10th
The skinny: Truthfully, other than Alabama, the remaining schedule isn’t that difficult. But does anyone truly believe the Butch Jones-coached Vols are only going to lose one more game? The quarterback situation is a disaster and the run defense is rancid.
9. Arkansas (2-2)
Last week: 8th
The skinny: The Hogs have beaten no one – FCS member Florida A&M and Sun Belt Conference member New Mexico State. Thing is, the SEC is so bad, the Hogs might be better than No. 8 in the league.
8. LSU (3-2)
Last week: 5th
The skinny: Where’s the toughness and physicality that LSU is known for? When Troy runs for 206 yards, something is wrong. And LSU’s offense is in disarray.
