Here’s a look at each of the seven games remaining involving SEC teams this weekend, which — sadly — is the final weekend of the regular season.
Given that it’s rivalry week, each of the eight has a few intriguing storylines. But there is one game that towers above the rest– and, no, we’re not talking Tennessee-Vanderbilt.
Ole Miss beat Mississippi State 31-28 on Thursday night, and Missouri beat Arkansas 48-45 on Friday.
Florida State (4-6) at Florida (4-6)
Time/TV: Saturday, noon, ESPN
The line: Florida State by 5
The buzz: This is the first time both these teams have had losing records when they’ve met since 1959. Both have been mediocre (or worse) on both sides of the ball. As bad as Florida’s offense has been, FSU’s actually is statistically worse (UF averages 341.5 yards per game, FSU 340.3). Both need to run effectively to be at their best – with “best” being a relative term. FSU’s run defense has been better than Florida’s, and that may be the key to the game. But keep an eye on special teams; Florida State’s have been awful, and in K Eddy Pineiro and P Johnny Townsend, Florida has two legitimate weapons. FSU has won four in a row in the series; the Seminoles never have won five in a row over the Gators.
The pick: Florida State 20-16
