‘Cocktail party’ overshadowed by important SEC West game — and Butch Jones’ status

SEC game previews

Here’s a look at all the games involving SEC teams in Week 9.

It’s time for the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” but that’s not the best game this week. That designation belongs to an important SEC West matchup.

The season is zooming by, so even though this isn’t the greatest week in the SEC, enjoy the games.

Arkansas (2-5) at Ole Miss (3-4)

Time/TV: Noon, SEC Network
The line: Ole Miss by 3.5
The buzz: If you like backup quarterbacks, this is your Super Bowl. Well, sort of. With Austin Allen hurt, Arkansas again will go with Cole Kelley. With Shea Patterson out for the season, Ole Miss will go with Jordan Ta’amu. Ta’amu has the better supporting cast, Kelley the better defense (though using “better defense” with these two is is a relative term). The heat seems to intensify weekly on Bret Bielema, who is 10-26 in SEC games at Arkansas. The Hogs, who have won three in a row in the series, have struggled to run the ball this season. But Ole Miss’ run defense basically is non-existent.
The pick: Arkansas 28-24
