Decision time is drawing near for three-star linebacker Jacquez Jones, who plans to make his college commitment in about a month.
Jones has more than 15 offers, including ones from LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
“Right now I don’t have any favorites, but my recruitment should be coming to an end pretty soon,” Jones told GN. “I want to commit so that I can focus on my senior season.
“It’s been in my head: Should I drop a top schools list, or should I just wait? I think at the end of the day, I might just wait until September 8, and just make my decision then. I’m going to commit during the third game of the season on September 8.”

Jones (6 feet 0, 225 pounds), from Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest, is among the top 45 outside linebacker prospects in the country and is one of the top-25 prospects in Alabama for the class of 2018. He goes to high school about eight miles from Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Jones also has offers from, among others, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Michigan and West Virginia.
How would Jones describe his game?
“I’m a physical player that is going to compete every day to be the best,” he said. “That’s the main thing about me: I’m a guy that is going to compete and give everything that I have.”
Is playing in the SEC important to Jones?
“The conference really doesn’t matter,” he said. “I mean, in the SEC, you are going to play with the best and against the best each week, but at the end of the day, football is football. The conference I play in really doesn’t matter.”

Jones has enjoyed the recruiting process.
“It’s really a blessing every time I get an offer,” Jones said. “I just pray to God because he gave me the ability to do what I am doing. For a team to give me a scholarship offer, it means a lot.
“A lot of people think because you got offers that you may be cocky or arrogant, but I’m really a humble person. I’ll sit down and talk with anybody, anywhere. That’s just the type of person my parents raised me (to be).”
